How to choose the right tarp size for your truck

By dslattery | August 23, 2023

TarpsCustomers often ask what size of tarp they should get for their truck or trailer. Replacement tarps for trucks and trailers come in different sizes and weights. Oftentimes, you need to get a tarp that is a few feet longer than the length of your truck bed, and the amount of tarp you need to add depends on the type of tarp system and the location it is mounted. For instance, an automatic tarp system mounted to the cab shield above the side rails would need an additional 4 feet of tarp, whereas a semi-automatic tarp system mounted to the cab shield above the side rails would need an additional 2 feet of tarp. Each tarp system and truck require different sizes of tarp for full coverage.

Pulltarps tarps are available in many different sizes and materials. Confirming that your tarp fits appropriately will ensure efficient operations and support drivers’ safety on the road. The guide below can help you decide how much additional tarp length you need to order for your tarp system and mounting position.

Tarps for Automatic Tarp Systems

  • Positions A, B, D, E & F – add 4 feet of tarp
  • Positions C & G – add 6 feet of tarp

Make sure your tarp length fits your trailer bed and cab shield mounting position to keep your team running on schedule. Safely tarping each load is an important aspect of the job. Many states have tarp laws that legislate when you must cover your load. Ensuring that your fleet legally is covered will keep you on the road for the long haul. Our Automatic tarp systems provide the fastest coverage for big jobs. Pulltarps automatic tarp systems can be operated by a wireless remote control. We also offer in-cab switches or external switches for convenient operation anywhere.
